How To Upload Your WebSite Files To Your HostGator Account
You will need to locate and open up the CoreFTP program that you downloaded and installed earlier.
When you first open it up to run, the Site Manager Window appears, before you can use CoreFTP to move files to your HostGator account, you need to tell it where to find your account, what your username is and what your password is.
This is fairly simple to do if you are using HostGator :) simply open up the welcome email they sent you, and locate three things in that email.
Your USERNAME
YOUR PASSWORD
and YOUR SITE IP ADDRESS
Now that you have those...first under site name...just give it a name you can remember, if you have 100's of site like I do, its easy to understand why.
Second
Under HOST/IP/URL, enter "FTP@10.10.10.110" without the quotes and of course your IP address goes after the FTP@ not the numbers I used above. That was just an example.
Finally enter your user name and password into the appropriate boxes.
The screen should look similar to the one below:
Next click on connect,
CoreFtp will now connect to your Website folder location at HostGator.
REMEMBER THE FOLLOWING...IT WILL MAKE USING COREFTP MUCH EASIER
The window on the left is the view of the files on your computer and the window on the right is the view of your Webhost folders often (call your server location)
That helps you to understand that you are moving files from your computer to HostGator's computer...(UPLOADING) or the opposite when you download
This next image shows the right hand side of the screen....scroll down until you see the Public HTML folder.
once you find it DOUBLE CLICK IT OPEN
That is your root folder, in other words the index page that appears directly in that folder is the one people see when they visit your domain name.
Now all you need to do is to browse the files on your computer THE LEFT HAND WINDOW
Locate the Website folder that you modified earlier...DOUBLE CLICK IT OPEN
SO NOW YOU HAVE THE PUBLIC_HTML FOLDER ON THE RIGHT OPEN AND THE WEBSITE FOLDER ON THE LEFT OPEN
So what we want to do is to move the CONTENTS (NOT THE FOLDER ITSELF) of the folder called website from your computer to your server.
The easiest way to do this is to right click anywhere in the left hand window and click on select all from the menu.
Now that all of the files and folders are highlighted (selected) and you are already inside your root directory (public HTML folder) you just need to click the blue upload arrow at the top that points towards the right (towards the server window)

Thats it, all of the Web Site files and folders are now being uploaded to your WebHost/Server.
Note that due to the extremely large size of this package, even with highspeed DSL/Cable Internet, this may take several hours.
I usually start it when I go to bed and when I get up in the morning its done.
The thing I like about CoreFtp, other than the price, is that if something happens during the upload, it will save your settings and finish where it left off when you start it back up.
So now your Website has been modified and uploaded to your Public_Html folder...all you have to do is type in your domain name and you should be able to view your site.
